Food Movements - What are They?
A food movement is any conscious shift towards a certain type of eating for health reasons or cultural values/beliefs.
Food movements have implications on health and political implications. Political implications, because voters are more likely to "vote with their forks" and choose the candidate that supports their food movement or their policy; implications on health because they determine what types of food are consumed by the people. Food movements are also social phenomenon because they might turn into social fashions or fads. To a certain extent, this is what happened with organic food, so much so that it became a statement of fashion rather than a true health choice.
In this section, we will examine food movements that pertain to sustainability raw food, real food, local food, and organic food. Look closely to determine your allegiance!
